How I became a Cruiser...
I wanted to find an activity that would get me some additional cardio on the weekends. I had heard about the Cruisers, and thought about joining. I didn't know any members, and I had never run before...other than on a treadmill. Before my first run, I wondered...would I feel intimidated? Would I be left behind? Would the group be welcoming? Would I feel out of place? I was prepared to give it a try, and hoped for the best. The worst case scenario - I would find another activity to do.
The Memorial Day run was my first. I was impressed by the sheer number of walkers/runners...a diverse group of ages and abilities. I made it through the first run next to another first time Cruiser. It was not about speed or competition. It was a fun run...and I didn't feel intimidated. I loved the fact that the Cruisers did not leave Cruisers behind...they circled back to make sure that everyone felt like part of the group.
I decided that I would give it a try and run the next weekend. I've been running every weekend ever since!
Running has become part of my week, and I look forward to it , even with the temperature extremes. :). I have met some amazing (and inspiring) people. And yes, we do talk while we run, so there's always something to share and learn from your fellow Cruisers. We encourage each other, and keep each other motivated. It has really become an extended family for me!
I am so thankful for the Cruisers. You have helped me find a new passion in life. You have provided me with guidance, advice, and support. You have made me believe in myself as a runner. You really have changed my life. :)
